NOW that was a weekend of footy to remember.
After weeks of criticism about the state of the game in the AFL, we finally had a round of quality, genuine quality.
You can tell, despite the results of some games, finals are near.
On the home front, the Power and the Crows had significant victories with some quality individual performances.

Justin Westhoff was the star of the Power’s win over Carlton at the MCG.
The Hoff continued his impressive season working at both ends of the ground, gathering 19 possessions and kicking two goals.
The Power’s swingman has surely guaranteed himself a contract extension.
Westhoff didn’t play a lone hand by any means but he was the only Power player to make the team.
The Crows’ gutsy win over the West Coast at Adelaide Oval was a victory not only for the team but for their captain Taylor Walker.
Tex shrugged off a week of controversy for his team and with the game in the balance at three-qaruter time he produced a magical last term to steer his team to victory.
Twenty-two disposals and 3.4 said it all.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Crows game without Rory Laird’s name being mentioned and the defender makes yet another team of the week gathering in excess of 30 possessions again as his All-Australian chances got back on track after his injury absence.
It was another week where the forwards stole the headlines, none more so than Richmond gun Jack Riewoldt.
He played one of the best games of his career taking a career-high 16 marks, seven of them contested and kicking three goals.
Team-mate Nick Vlastuin joins him after another strong game in defence.
Hawthorn midfielder Tom Mitchell cracked the 50-possession mark again to make his place in the team a certainty.
Mitchell’s stats sheet read 50 possessions at 80 per cent effective disposal, 13 tackles and nine clearances. Not a bad afternoon’s work in anyone’s language.
Special mention this week must go to Carlton forward Charlie Curnow.
He managed 17 disposals, four goals and three contested marks. If he is not the most exciting player in the game today, who is?
In a time where crowds are struggling around the country, this young man is putting backsides on seats.
