BRISBANE and Carlton will battle it out for a very special prize this Saturday night.

Standout prospect and power forward Josh Schache looms as the No. 1 draft pick this year with both clubs in desperate need of key position reinforcement.

The Lions sit in last position on the ladder and the likely recipients of the No.1 pick but the Blues are only four points and two percentage points ahead.

If Schache does go No. 1, the good news for whoever finishes in 17th is Jacob Weitering will be available.

Weitering - a key defender - has been touted as a possible No.1 draft pick and it is believed the Blues are more likely to call his name first if they claim the wooden spoon.

Speaking on the SuperFooty Podcast, Jon Anderson believes the Lions are more likely to take Schache while the Blues will be excited by Weitering.

“They didn’t plan for Jonathan Brown’s retirement,” he said.

“They had 14 years to think about it and other than Lachie Henderson there was never a draft pick where they got that big, strong power forward.

“Carlton would not be unhappy with (Jacob) Weitering or (Aaron) Francis.

“I still think Carlton would be forced to go for the forward-ruck in Schache ... to go with Kreuzer. It would be a nice little double act.”

Despite its QClash victory last weekend, Gold Coast aren’t out of the wooden spoon conversation either sitting two points ahead of Carlton thanks to the draw with West Coast.

Francis, a key position prospect out of South Australia, has impressed this season while NSW pair Callum Mills and Jacob Hooper are likely to be snapped up by Sydney and GWS under the Academy bidding system.
