Dane Rampe crowned Sydney Swans’ best and fairest after super season

Sydney Swans defender Dane Rampe has taken out his first club champion medal after the most dominant year of his career.

Dane Rampe has claimed the Sydney Swans’ best and fairest award after a season he ranks as his best in the AFL.

The key defender was unlucky to miss out on the All-Australian team, but has been recognised for playing the key role in holding together a rebuilding Swans outfit besieged by injury.

Rampe finished on 581 club championship votes, monstering the tally of the next best, rising star George Hewett (461) and co-captain Luke Parker (458).

Top goal-kicker Tom Papley (457) and Callum Mills (429) rounded out the top five.

Despite his infamous goalpost climb, it was a memorable year for Sydney-born Rampe, who was also included in the 40-man greatest NSW team of all time.

“Appointed as a co-captain this year, Dane’s influence around the group went up another level. He really embraced the role and led from the front brilliantly,” Swans coach John Longmire said.
