Collingwood set a new mark as Carlton roll the dice in AFL teams

Collingwood’s named team has broken an all-time AFL record, while winless Carlton has rolled the dice for their crunch match-up.

On the outer? Which players should leave

Collingwood has named a virtually full-strength side which will be the oldest in AFL history to take on winless Carlton on Thursday night.

The Magpies have regained Brody Mihocek and Billy Frampton, the latter replacing the injured Reef McInnes, while Mihocek takes his place back from the omitted Mason Cox.

Craig McRae named the second-oldest team in league history in Round 2 and numbers from the ABC suggest Round 4’s Collingwood side will have an average age of 28 years and 275 days.

They have surpassed the victorious Geelong side from the 2022 grand final, which had an average age of 28 years and 206 days.

In contrast Carlton is still without star forward Harry McKay, who remains on the sidelines due to personal reasons, instead bringing in a younger trio.

Brody Mihocek is back while Michael Voss has tweaked his side.

Pre-season signing Will White makes his AFL debut after impressing in their VFL program, while Ashton Moir and Cooper Lord also come in.

Matt Cottrell misses through injury while Jordan Boyd and Francis Evans have been dropped.

“I probably won’t go into the ‘H’ stuff,” Voss said of McKay earlier on Wednesday. “I think the important thing for us is that we don’t get into dialogue weekly about where he’s at.

“I think we’ve been pretty sound on our position as a club, that when he’s named in the team he’ll be ready to go.”

The rest of the Round 4 teams will be announced at 6.20pm AEDT on Thursday.
