Aldinga Sharks sack coach Shane Lynch just two matches into the Southern Football League season
AN A-grade footy coach has been sacked just two rounds into the season, after his team lost their first two games by a combined margin of 457 points.
ALDINGA Sharks have sacked their A-grade coach just two rounds into the Southern Football League season — after they were thrashed in those games by a combined margin of 457 points.
Shane Lynch was dismissed on Sunday after the club sustained a 300-point loss to Port Noarlunga at home the previous day.
Sharks president Danny Wilde said the board unanimously decided Lynch — who coached Aldinga from 2006-08 before rejoining the club for the 2013 season — was not the right fit for the job.
Lynch said he accepted the board’s decision but was shocked at the timing of it.
“I was given no warning I was going to get sacked,” Lynch said.
“Why weren’t we all sitting down as a club and working out our problems?
“The result on the weekend was terrible but there were reasons behind the result.”
Lynch said the club “desperately needed” up to 25 new players to improve its stocks.
“I did the best with what players were available to me at the time.”
Wilde said this season’s results, which also include a 157-point defeat to Hackham in round one, was only part of the reason for the board’s decision.
“We didn’t feel that what our expectations were through pre-season were being achieved, as far as structure and game planning goes,” Wilde said.
“It’s not just what happens on Saturdays.
“We feel we might be better off to part ways and see if we can find some greener pastures.”
The Sharks finished second-bottom with a 2-16 record last year in Lynch’s first season back at the club.
They are bottom after two games this year.
Wilde said the club was looking for a new coach with strong leadership skills.
“The goal now would be to get someone in and settled, looking at our structure and getting a structure working for us.”
