Mo Hope is set to leave Collingwood and join AFL Womens’ expansion club

MO Hope has almost certainly played her last game with Collingwood with new franchise North Melbourne set to swoop on the 30-year-old forward.

It is understood the Kangaroos have heavily targeted Hope as they prepare to build their list for their maiden AFLW season in 2019.

However, the AFL has the power to veto prospective recruitment moves.

Hope was the Magpies’ first marquee signing in July 2016, but struggled to make a big impact in her two seasons at the club.

She is believed to be central to the Kangaroos’ list strategy, and is likely to be playing at Arden Street next year.

The Magpies have made an offer to the forward, who is one of the most high profile players in the AFLW competition, but has yet to hear back about Hope’s intentions.

The news comes as the established clubs receive the list of players lodged by the new AFLW franchise teams North Melbourne and Geelong.

The player movement window opens on Friday with clubs unable to confirm signings or contracts until then.

Hope, who was dropped at one stage by the Magpies this year, kicked 15 goals from her 13 games in black and white.

Hope played VFLW for North Melbourne’s affiliate Melbourne University last season and is close with the Kangaroos star recruit, Emma Kearney.

Collingwood appears the foundation club set to be most effected by the expansion, with talented forward Jasmine Garner also believed to be a target Roos.

Magpies ruck Emma King has also been linked to a move to Arden Street as has Jess Duffin, who is good friends with Kearney through their cricket connection.

Brisbane’s Victorian players have also been targeted, with Ballarat-born speedster Kaitlyn Ashmore also linked to North Melbourne. Ashmore is mates with Hope and also played at Melbourne University.
