THE Giants’ AFLW team have continued to plunder other sports with netballer Taylah Davies and Gaelic footballer Evonne Bonner the latest recruits.

Bonner follows in the footsteps of countrywoman Cora Staunton who took the AFLW by storm in her debut season earlier this year.

The 31-year-old comes from Donegal and has played for the Gaelic All Star team.

“I watched the documentary about Cora and the Giants just before I left,” Bonner said.

“Little did I know I would be following her a week later and playing at the same club. I’m in awe of her professionalism and I’m looking forward to working with Alan McConnell. I also get to have summer in Ireland and then in Australia.”

Bonner took part in the cross-coders trial in Melbourne over the weekend that saw her and 17 other athletes from six countries try their hand at AFL.

For Davies it will be a change of sports but not colours after the 23 year old from Wollongong played for the Giants’ netball team this year and before that for the Swifts as a wing attack and centre.

“I really love the club,” Davis said. “I’ve never played Aussie rules before and the uniform is a bit different from the netball dress but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Diamonds star Sharni Layton started the trend of netballers moving to AFLW earlier this month when she announced she would be playing for Collingwood’s AFLW team this season.

Layton played 46 tests for Australia and announced her retirement from netball in August.

“Sharni and I played together at the Swifts,” Bonner said.

“It’s exciting for both of us and women’s sport in general. I love training hard and pushing myself. Being in the same club as the AFLW team over the last couple of years I’ve seen how hard they work.”
