Crows claim AFLW crown

ADELAIDE coach Bec Goddard has conceded she was on tenterhooks during the final few minutes of the Crows’ historic AFLW grand final triumph and was counting down the seconds.

Players after the match said the runner had come out when there was 90 seconds left and told them to go into lockdown mode as Brisbane launched one last raid in an attempt to steal the flag after Adelaide had dominated most of the match.

Goddard said the Crows had not been able to put the grand final — and Brisbane under lock and key right up until the siren.

“It was an amazing win,” Goddard said. “It was a massive team win.

“The girls just kept going and going.

“We knew it was going to be four long battles and we were really confident we would get there with the way we attacked and the way we defended.

“And we just got there; the siren went at the right time.

“We were attacking like hell; we were in the biggest fight of our life with Brisbane.

“They’re an amazing opponent and we knew that was going to happen.

“We just had to get that ball a little bit longer and stop kicking so shallow.

“We were putting it in and putting it in (to attack) but we just couldn’t score.

“Their defence was unbelievable and for our defenders to be able to stand up on that counter attack and turn it back over and force it back down in the clutch was unreal.”
