Carlton defender Vaomua Laloifi will miss the clash with Western Bulldogs on Friday night as the first player impacted by the AFL’s new concussion rules.

Laloifi must sit out 12 days under league protocols after being concussed in a tackle from Aliesha Newman in last week’s season-opening loss to Collingwood.

Newman received a one-game ban for the incident.

Jessica Edwards has replaced Laloifi in Carlton’s only change.

The Bulldogs have swung the axe after their nine-point defeat to St Kilda, dropping Gemma Lagioia, Britney Gutknecht, Danielle Marshall and Lauren Spark.

Ellyse Gamble, Kim Rennie, Kirsten McLeod and Naomi Ferres are the inclusions.

The game will be the 150th for the AFLW since its inception in 2017.

BLUES STAR’S SUPER SIBLING

Madison Prespakis has already taken the AFLW by storm.

Soon, her sister Georgie could be joining her in the big league.

Last year’s AFLW best and fairest winner, Carlton star Madison has already been dropping hints to Blues recruiters that her younger sister is something special as Georgie enters her draft year.

While the NAB League Girls season was limited to just three games last year before being scrapped because of COVID-19, Georgie had been a runaway winner of the league best-and-fairest in 2019 while playing for Calder Cannons.

“She’s very athletic,” Madison said of her sister.

“She’s a tall version of me. We’re not the same build or anything. She towers over me a fair bit but be both play through the midfield.

“I’m probably more a bull at a gate and she can get the hard ball if she wants but she can run it a lot better than I can.”

The sisters grew up playing football in the backyard and also teamed up in school football at Gisborne Secondary College.

Georgie also had an opportunity to train with Carlton’s women’s side – alongside sister Madison – for three weeks before the 2020 AFLW season as part of the NAB AFLW Academy program.

“It was just cool to think we’ve both grown up wanting to play AFLW and we were both in the same environment,” Madison said.

“I could definitely get used to it.”

Georgie will again line up for the Calder Cannons when the 2021 NAB League Girls season kicks off this weekend.

“I hope she enjoys her draft year because it’s pretty exciting,” Madison said.

“It’s pretty full-on but she’s finished Year 12 now so she can focus on her footy, which is great.”
