Carlton intends to make it as tough as possible for Collingwood as the Magpies hunt Blues skipper Bri Davey.

Davey has tonight told coach Daniel Harford of her intention to move to the Blues’ cross-town rival, days after claiming the club’s best and fairest award alongside Maddy Prespakis.

Davey - who has been captain of Carlton for two seasons, including in the recent grand final loss to Adelaide - cannot simply walk to Collingwood.

A trade would have to be facilitated, with the Blues preparing to stand firm.

Collingwood finished at the bottom of the AFLW ladder this year, having notched just one win for the season, and is yet to appoint a coach after Wayne Siekman departed at the end of the season.

The Magpies have the No. 1 pick in their arsenal, but it is understood that that may not be enough to satisfy the grand finalists.

Davey told the club she wants to be traded to Collingwood only a day after winning the club’s best-and-fairest award.

The Blues are understood to be shocked by the request from their captain Davey after they marched into a grand final on the back of a rousing season.

The Herald Sun understands she has been lured on the back of a significant offer from the Pies, who battled through another failed season.

Davey had asked for the move last year after the club’s poor season, believing the club was not heading in the right direction.

But on the back of her dominant form along with first-year midfield star Maddy Prespakis the Blues midfield helped put together a rousing run into the Grand Final.

She and Prespakis shared Thursday night’s best-and-fairest award, with Carlton believing she was happy and settled at the club.

Collingwood is not an expansion club so they cannot simply poach her, with Davey believed to have made the overtures to the Pies, who battled all year and sacked their coach Wayne Siekman.

The clubs would have to come to a trade agreement which could be difficult to broker.

Davey was one of Carlton’s two inaugural marquee players after a successful soccer career where she represented the Matilda as a goalkeeper.

Only this week Blues star Darcy Vescio hit out at critics of AFLW players moving clubs for better opportunities.

“We’re not on lengthy contracts for the big $ and also players literally have to move to grow @aflwomens. It’s not the clubs’ fault, nor players’ fault, it’s the current landscape,” she tweeted.
