Crows forward Eloise Jones puts the side’s improved accuracy in front of goals down to good ol’ fashioned hard work on the training track.

A FOCUS at training on kicking straight from set shots in front of goals is paying dividends for Adelaide forward Eloise Jones, who added another two majors to her season haul during the Crows 42-point demolition of Fremantle on Saturday night.
The team seems to have put behind them the wayward kicking that marred their only loss of AFLW03 as they sit second in the stacked Conference A, with a 3-1 win/loss record.
Jones blamed the dismal 1.11 kicked in their opening round loss to the Western Bulldogs on “week one jitters and nerves coming back”.
“(We) kicked a little off target, but we have been working really hard as a forward group in trainings to make sure we are getting on the money with our shots,” she said.
“Erin (Phillips) is a big vocal area for us in the forward line, she’s working hard with us on kicking straight and our set shots, it has made a difference.”
In her second season of AFLW football, the 19-year-old has now kicked five goals across four games and sits only just outside the AFLW’s top-five leading goalkickers.
Pleasingly, her teammate Stevie-Lee Thompson is equal league leader alongside North Melbourne’s Emma King with seven goals each and co-captain Phillips has six.
As the Crows prepare to take on Conference A leaders — the undefeated Kangaroos — in Melbourne on Sunday, Jones said the side would need to do its best to cover injured defender Courtney Cramey, who’s hamstring injury has been confirmed by the club as a grade two strain.
“It’s disappointing to have her out, but she’s a part of our leadership group and she’s really strong and really vocal, so there’s lots of other ways she can help us out, that don’t have to be on the field.”
Cramey is expected to miss two-to-four weeks. But the team will be boosted by the return of strong forward Chloe Scheer from a one-game suspension for rough conduct.
Jones said the match-of-the-round clash with North Melbourne would be a big one.
“They’re a talented side, they’ve got a lot of really good players in there going through, but it will just be another challenge for us,” she said.
“It’s always good to play the better teams in the competition so we’re really excited for it.”
