Adelaide Crows star Ebony Marinoff says a finger injury won’t keep her from playing the AFLW season opener against Brisbane

Adelaide Crows star Ebony Marinoff says there’s no way an injured finger will keep her out of her side’s AFLW round one clash against Brisbane on February 8.

Crows AFLW gun Ebony Marinoff says she is in no doubt for the first game of Adelaide’s second flag defence.

The dual premiership winner and two-time All-Australian sat out the Crows’ trial game against GWS on Saturday at Richmond Oval with a finger injury.

But the 22-year-old, one of the most damaging players in the AFLW, told The Advertiser she was no danger of missing the Crows’ season opener in Brisbane on February 8.

“Nah, I would probably get on the field with a broken leg, so that (her current injury) is a little niggle,” she said.

“I wouldn’t be missing a game for a finger.”

The Crows lost to the Giants by 17 points on Saturday, but coach Matthew Clarke didn’t pay one bit of attention to the score.

Marinoff is in the same camp, saying with all the shifting of the magnets Clarke did in the game, she was actually a bit relieved to be on the sidelines after a big morning running session.

“It was really good to watch our young girls and see how they go,” she said.

“We had eight debutants, so it is exciting.”

Marinoff will be a part of the Crows squad that travels to Perth this weekend to take on Fremantle, and said she would definitely play.

She will be sporting a bit of history on the field, as one of the players wearing ASICS’ first ever-football boot designed specifically for females – the Tigreor IT FF.

“For them to finally have a female boot, it is exciting for us that such a big company like ASICS has put the time and effort behind a female boot, it is super cool and it says something about where women’s sport is going,” she said.

“It is slimmer because our feet are a bit narrower, so your foot feels a bit more secure.”

Marinoff is also featured in the new annual AFLW magazine ‘Women’s Footy’ released on Wednesday.

Women’s Footy is on sale for $4.95 at selected newsagents with The Advertiser.
