Premiership midfielder Hannah Martin has revealed her devastation after becoming the fourth Adelaide AFLW player this year to tear her ACL.
Martin wrecked her knee playing for NT Thunder in the VFLW competition on Saturday, during the side’s two-point win over Carlton at TIO Stadium.
The 165cm midfielder, who enjoyed a standout first year at AFLW level after being drafted by the Crows in 2018, wrote on her social media account: “One of the most mentally and physically challenging weekends of my life. All I know is that something good will come from this. Thank you for all the love and support over the past few days.”
The 22-year-old joins co-captain Erin Phillips, forward Chloe Scheer and ruck Rhiannon Metcalfe on the list of Crows players who’ve torn their ACL during 2019.
Phillips and Scheer were casualties during the side’s emphatic grand final victory in March, while Metcalfe tore hers during a trial game in January.
Martin played eight games during the 2019 AFLW season and kicked a goal in the grand final, which was played in front of more than 53,000 people at Adelaide Oval.
She thanked the NT Thunder for their support saying: “It has been such an honour to pull on the NT Thunder colours this season! I have loved every minute being surrounded by such an amazing group”.
Many of the Adelaide squad members play for the Thunder during the AFLW off-season. Martin has vowed to come back to the game she loved.
“Thank you to the (Crows) who have fully supported me and my football journey and I know will continue to for the long journey ahead,” she wrote.
