The AFL world has come together in its outrage over the naming of the round 17 rising star nomination.
Fans of certain clubs are often dismayed when their youngster isn’t the one announced as the weekly recipient of the award.

But on Tuesday night the entire football community joined as one as they were left seeing red after Adelaide rookie Lachie Sholl wasn’t named as the NAB rising star for round 17.
Sholl was electric against Carlton, finishing the game with 24 disposals and two goals to his name. But the nominee instead went to Collingwood’s Isaac Quaynor.
Towards the end of AFL seasons the nominees factor in a player’s entire body of work from the season, but that didn’t sit well with fans and players who were dumbfounded Sholl’s stunning game didn’t net him the nomination.
Can someone please explain to me why Lachlan Sholl missed out on something today...?

“It’s staggering. Your bloke was magnificent. Nothing against Quaynor, but geez Sholl played a game,” Andy Maher wrote in response to Walker.
“Mind-boggling. I covered the game and gave Sholl best. Helped set up the win early. The “not just based on one game” or “but he’s eligible next year” argument is weird too. It’s a weekly award,” The Advertiser’s Matt Turner wrote.
I really rate Isaac no doubt heâs going to be a star BUT my man was BOG ... what is going on here?! https://t.co/V4ExZQD0BV

Big fan of the Rising Star award and a big fan of Isaac Quaynor so nothing to do with him but someone had dropped the ball this week - Lachlan Sholl 24 disposals 2 goals and 600+ metres gained. Had to be nominated

Quaynor finished Monday night’s game against the Gold Coast Suns with 17 disposals and had two score involvements. He has played eight games for Collingwood in 2020 and currently ranks above average in the AFL for handballs, tackles, disposal efficiency and intercept possessions.
Sholl has now played seven games for the Crows this season and ranks above average for inside 50s, total clearances and stoppage clearances. He does rank elite in centre clearances.
