The highly-anticipated first clash between the McKay twins is on hold until at least next season after Coleman Medal favourite Harry was ruled out of Saturday’s Marvel Stadium meeting with his brother Ben due to a jarred toe.

It’s the second time in as many seasons that the Blues key forward has been a late withdrawal from taking on his sibling, Kangaroos defender Ben.

Harry suffered the toe injury in last week’s win over Collingwood, but had been named in the Carlton side to take on North Melbourne.

But much to his disappointment - and that of so many in the footy world eager to see the twins’ maiden match-up after six years in the AFL system - Harry failed to get through a fitness test on Friday morning, prompting Ben to tweet: “Déjà vu”.

Harry is no certainty to play next week against St Kilda, with the club listing him as “a test”.

The McKay twins have both enjoyed career-best seasons, with Harry kicking 52 goals from 17 games to lead the Coleman Medal by 10 goals and Ben blossoming into the key defender the Kangaroos always knew he could be.

That fuelled the anticipation of their first meeting since being selected 11 picks apart in the 2015 national draft, along with their good nature competitive ribbing of each other.

Earlier this year Ben had joked that he would never play on Harry because “I normally take the best forward”. Harry responded soon after with “Ben might be in the twos by then.”

Their parents, Peter and Tracey McKay, had been planning to watch the game from their home, due to Melbourne’s Covid lockdown.

Harry leads the Coleman Medal race by 10 goals heading into Round 19, with Adelaide’s Taylor Walker and Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt equal second on 42 goals.

Geelong’s Tom Hawkins and Western Bulldog Josh Bruce are a further goal behind.

The Blues are hopeful the 23-year-old can return to take on the Saints next week.

Carlton has elevated Matthew Owies into the 22 to replace McKay. Popular veteran Marc Murphy remains one of the club’s emergencies for the Kangaroos’ game, meaning his quest to reach 300 games remains touch and go.

He could yet be the medi-sub on Saturday, but needs to play four of the last five games to reach that milestone.

Titch to fill Tigers’ Dusty void

Richmond star Shane Edwards is back for his first game in three weeks as the Tigers continue their finals push without Brownlow Medallist Dustin Martin against Geelong on Sunday.

Edwards, returning from an ankle injury, is one of two Richmond changes for the grand final rematch at the MCG and will help fill the void left by Martin, who has been ruled out for the season with a lacerated kidney.

The Tigers’ medical substitute last week, midfielder Jack Ross, has been named in the 22, while wingman Kamdyn McIntosh (hamstring) is also out.

Geelong has been boosted by the inclusions of forward Gary Rohan (corked quad) and key defender Lachie Henderson (personal reasons) after one-week absences.

They replace midfielder Quinton Narkle, who has been dropped, and small forward Brad Close (managed).

Essendon confirmed on-baller Dylan Shiel would be playing his first game since Round 2 against GWS at Metricon Stadium on Sunday – a match crucial to both clubs’ finals hopes.

Shiel, back from a torn meniscus, is one of three Bombers ins, along with veteran David Zaharakis and one-game ruckman Nick Bryan.

Bryan’s only other match came against Carlton in Round 7.

The Giants will be aided by the return of half-back Lachie Whitfield from concussion, while ruckman Shane Mumford and youngster Lachie Ash also come into the team, at the expense of Jeremy Finlayson (omitted), Matthew Flynn (shoulder) and Callan Ward (managed).

Sam Reid returns to Sydney’s line-up for the first time since Round 6, as the Swans look to keep putting pressure on the top four when they face Fremantle at Metricon Stadium on Sunday.

Reid replaces second-year midfielder Dylan Stephens.

Fremantle has brought in Hayden Young, Lloyd Meek and Matt Taberner for Blake Acres (omitted), Rory Lobb (ankle), Ethan Hughes (omitted) and Sam Switovski (hamstring).
