ADELAIDE
Andrew McPherson – hamstring – 1 to 2 weeks
Rory Laird – hand – test
Paul Seedsman – concussion – ongoing
In a huge boost for the Crows reigning club champion Rory Laird could return for Round 2 against Collingwood after a rapid recovery from a broken hand. Laird was expected to be out for four to six weeks after he fractured his hand in the Community Series match against Port Adelaide. Laird didn’t have surgery on the hand and despite that he has made a rapid recovery. Andrew McPherson is expected to be out for one to two weeks after he hurt his hamstring in the second quarter against Fremantle. Scans revealed he suffered a low-grade hamstring issue. Seedsman is continuing to rehab from concussion issues.
BRISBANE LIONS
Keidean Coleman – hamstring – seven weeks
Eric Hipwood – knee – indefinite
Dayne Zorko – calf – test
Young gun Keidean Coleman remains on the sideline with a hamstring injury suffered during the pre-season. Concerns were held for captain Dayne Zorko and Jarrod Berry out of round 1, however the club on Monday confirmed both players had escaped the worst and would be fine to play this weekend. Zorko suffered a slight tear to some scar tissue in his lower calf and will be available for selection this weekend.
CARLTON

Jack Martin – AFL Health and Safety Protocols – 1 week
Dom Akuei – groin – Test
Sam Walsh – ankle – available
Liam Stocker – ankle – 2-3 weeks
Josh Honey – knee – 3-4 weeks
Caleb Marchbank – knee – 4-6 weeks
David Cuningham – knee – 12-16 weeks
Cerra and Martin will miss this week’s clash with the Western Bulldogs after testing positive to Covid-19 last Friday. But in a massive boost best-and-fairest winner Walsh is making a faster than expected recovery and is set to make a surprise return in Thursday night’s game despite being listed as 1-2 weeks on the injury list earlier in the week.
COLLINGWOOD
Charlie Dean – foot – mid-season
Will Hoskin-Elliott – Covid protocols – test
Brayden Maynard – suspension – 1 week
Nathan Kreuger – concussion/suspension – available
Nathan Murphy – ankle – mid-season
Jordan Roughead – shoulder – 3-4 weeks
Kreuger can return from suspension so long as he clears the concussion protocols while Will Hoskin-Elliott should also be ready to play. Tough nut Brayden Maynard must serve one more match of his pre-season ban, but the Magpies are relatively healthy as they target their best start to a season (2-0) since 2013.
ESSENDON
Kyle Langford – hamstring – 12 weeks
Will Snelling – calf – 3-4 weeks
Jayden Laverde – soreness – test
Jake Stringer – groin – available
Harry Jones – ankle – 2-3 weeks
Zach Reid – foot – 3-4 weeks
Michael Hurley – hip – indefinite
Kyle Langford has been dealt a major blow with his hamstring injury worse than expected and he will miss up to three months. Will Snelling hurt his calf last week and will miss up to a month but the good news is that matchwinner Jake Stringer is confident he will be over his groin problem to play against Brisbane on Saturday. Defender Jayden Laverde will be closely monitored after being involved in a heavy collision with Geelong’s Jeremy Cameron which left him sore and sorry after the disappointing loss.
FREMANTLE
Sean Darcy – calf- – test
Nathan Wilson – shoulder – test
Nat Fyfe – back – test
Matt Taberner – hamstring – 1-3 weeks
Matthew Johnson – ankle – TBA
Eric Benning – lower leg – TBA
Sean Darcy and Nathan Wilson are both a chance to return this weekend with Dockers GM of Football Peter Bell confirming the pair’s respective injuries had improved. Nat Fyfe also faces a test but Bell said the club will make a call after Thursday’s main session with the skipper’s back injury still a concern.
GWS
Nick Haynes – Stomach – Test
Jesse Hogan – Soreness – Test
Conor Stone – Hamstring – 4-6 weeks
Zach Sproule – Shoulder – 6 weeks
Brent Daniels – Foot- 6-8 weeks
Jack Buckley – Knee – 3-4 months
Haynes played a full game in a VFL practice match last Saturday, while Hogan also took part in that match and played limited minutes. Both got through the match without any problems and are expected to put their hands up to return if they get through main training on Thursday.
GEELONG
Jeremy Cameron – hip – unlikely

Sam Menegola – knee – 1-2 weeks
Gary Rohan – back – 4-6 weeks

Star forward Jeremy Cameron is set to join his Geelong teammates on the plane to Sydney on Thursday but his spot in the side is still in doubt after he ran laps at training on Wednesday. After being cleared of internal damage, Cameron has been working through a hip pointer injury following a brutal collision early in Saturday’s thumping win over Essendon. The goalkicker began Wednesday’s main training by running laps and quipped to staff he was feeling “better”.
GOLD COAST SUNS
Charlie Constable – groin – 1 to 3 weeks
Jack Bowes – shoulder – seven weeks
Ben King – knee – season
Bodhi Uwland – back – indefinite
The Suns were another team to escape any serious injuries from round 1. Charlie Constable shapes to come back into the selection frame in the coming weeks after suffering a groin injury in the pre-season, while Jack Bowes still faces another two months on the sideline.
HAWTHORN
Will Day – ankle – test
Max Lynch – concussion – 1 to 2 weeks
Jarman Impey – ankle – 1 week
Connor Downie – hamstring – 2 to 3 weeks
Lachlan Bramble – foot – 3 to 4 weeks
Hawthorn young gun Will Day could play his first game since June last year in Round 2 after completing three quarters in a VFL practice match last week. Coach Sam Mitchell confirmed Day, who was expected to miss the first month of the AFL season after ankle surgery last year, was “a chance” to play against Port Adelaide on Saturday. “We haven’t made a decision yet. He was playing limited time in the VFL, played three quarters or a touch more,” Mitchell said on Wednesday. “He’s getting very close. We’ll watch him and monitor him. Whether we play him this week, next week or the week after will be something to monitor. He’s a chance for this week.”
MELBOURNE
Trent Rivers – knee – test
Kade Chandler – abdominal – test
Michael Hibberd – calf – test
Jake Lever – foot – test
Harry Petty – calf – 3-4 weeks
Daniel Turner – foot – 4-6 weeks
Christian Salem – knee – 6-8 weeks
Coach Simon Goodwin confirmed premiership defender Jake Lever wouldn’t return for Saturday’s clash against Gold Coast as he continues to recover from a sore foot. But Trent Rivers will be back, to fill the gap left by Christian Salem, who is facing up to eight weeks on the sidelines after having knee surgery following the opening round win over the Western Bulldogs. “We are going to take a cautious approach (with Lever). He’s still a little bit sore in that foot,” Goodwin said. “It’s a good thing the plantar fascia is torn … we’ll make sure we mend him the right way. There’ a big likelihood Trent will come in to the team based on the work he has done over the last few weeks.”
NORTH MELBOURNE
Jed Anderson – conditioning – indefinite
Jackson Archer – finger – test
Atu Bosenavulagi – concussion – 1 week
Matt McGuinness – foot -3 weeks
Ben McKay – concussion – 1 week
Will Phillips – illness – indefinite
Jared Polec – ankle – test
Phoenix Spicer – hamstring – 3 weeks
Josh Walker – Covid-19 – test
Ben Cunnington – illness – indefinite
Jared Polec will be back in contention this week after an ankle issue saw him be a late withdrawal from the team that lost to Hawthorn. Ben McKay was concussed early on against the Hawks and will now enter the AFL’s concussion protocols. At VFL level Jackson Archer dislocated his finger but will be fine for this week while Atu Bosenavulagi is another to be in the concussion protocols. Jed Anderson is considered to be six to eight weeks away while a time frame for Ben Cunnington is unknown
PORT ADELAIDE
Aliir Aliir – ankle – 5 to 6 weeks
Tom Clurey – knee – 3 to 4 weeks
Charlie Dixon – ankle – 2-3 weeks
Xavier Duursma – shoulder – test
Orazio Fantasia – knee – 6-8 weeks
Robbie Gray – knee – test
Kane Farrell – knee – 3 to 4 weeks
Trent McKenzie – knee – test
The Power sent Aliir Aliir in for surgery on Monday after scans confirmed their fears that he had suffered a syndesmosis injury. They will be without him for at least a month, depending on how he recovers. But while that was a blow the Power might have dodged a few injury bullets. Scans haven’t been able to find a crack or fracture in Xavier Duursma’s shoulder and he was running at training. Trent McKenzie has dodged an ACL injury and will be a test for this weekend. Charlie Dixon was training on Tuesday but Round 2 against Hawthorn should come too soon for him.
RICHMOND
Kamdyn McIntosh – calf – test
Jack Riewoldt – thumb – 1 week
Dion Prestia – hamstring – 3-4 weeks
Nick Vlastuin – hamstring – 3-4 weeks
Kane Lambert – hip – 8-10 weeks
Dion Prestia is a massive out although the Tigers are at least glad his hamstring strain is minor but with his history of soft-tissue injuries he won’t be rushed. Full-forward Jack Riewoldt has had surgery on his thumb and after initially thinking he could get up because of a 10-day break, that has since been shelved and he won’t face the Giants. Defender Nick Vlastiun is back running but hasn’t been able to start kicking yet so is still weeks away while Kane Lambert is again trying to avoid surgery and will step up his running this week.
ST KILDA
Injury list
Jack Billings (hamstring) – 2-3 weeks
Hunter Clark (shoulder) – 3-5 weeks
Nick Coffield (ACL) – season
Paddy Ryder is fit but unlikely to make the trip to Perth while Billings and Clark remain a few weeks away. The worry for the Saints is they are relatively fit, despite the vanilla performance in Round 1. Jarryn Geary played a VFL match on the wing.
SYDNEY
Jake Lloyd – AFL Health and Safety Protocols – Test
Chad Warner – AFL Health and Safety Protocols – Test
Tom Papley – Hamstring – 1-2 weeks
Sam Naismith – Knee – Season
Lloyd and Warner should be available to face Geelong on Friday night after missing their side’s Round 1 match under AFL Covid-19 protocols. Papley is edging closer to a return from his pre-season hamstring injury.
WEST COAST
Oscar Allen – foot – 4-5 weeks
Campbell Chesser – ankle – Inactive
Greg Clark – shoulder – 5-6 weeks
Tom Cole – ankle – Inactive
Jamie Cripps – pectoral – 4-5 weeks
Jack Darling – foot – available
Liam Duggan – knee – available
Luke Edwards – groin – available
Tom Joyce – ankle – 3-4 weeks
Dom Sheed – ankle – 8 weeks
Luke Shuey – hamstring – available
Connor West – hamstring – 1 week
Elliot Yeo – calf – 2-3 weeks
Luke Shuey back would be massive for the injury-struck Eagles who should get a raft of players back including Alex Witherden and Tim Kelly. Jack Darling is also available and will make his much anticipated return alongside Liam Duggan. Gun midfielder Elliot Yeo is still at least a couple of weeks away.
WESTERN BULLDOGS
Marcus Bontempelli – ankle – Test
Tim O’Brien – hamstring – Test
Jason Johannisen calf – 2-3 weeks
Josh Bruce – knee – 4-5 months
Toby McLean – knee – 4-5 months
Sam Darcy – foot – Indefinite
Part of the glory of Marcus Bontempelli has been his durability – he has played 171 out of a possible 177 games since making his AFL debut and last missed a match in 2018 – so you would back his healing powers to get up for Thursday night. Recruit Tim O’Brien was signed with the knowledge Josh Bruce would miss most of this season and so the temptation would be to get him straight in against the Blues. Jason Johannisen’s pinged calf in the warm-up gave Lachie Hunter a reprieve while Josh Schache’s trial on a wing included a couple of forgettable, and goal-costing, moments against Melbourne.
