Assessing the best prospects has been a difficult process for recruiters — and draft experts, alike — this year with the pandemic wiping out junior football across Victoria and forcing the SANFL and WAFL into reduced seasons.

On top of those complications, the 2020 draft pool was already a compromised one with 18 of the 48 players who featured in the Under-17 All Stars game on grand final day last year tied to AFL clubs as either possible father-sons or academy prospects.

With the list sizes expected to drop slightly next year, the number of players chosen in December is also likely to fall.

But the talent available is unquestioned.

Western Bulldogs NGA prospect Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, Perth key-forward Logan McDonald and West Adelaide’s Riley Thilthorpe lead a trio of star talls set to headline the pointy-end of the draft.

Midfielders Elijah Hollands and Will Phillips lead a long list of Victorians set to find an AFL home despite limited exposure, while Denver Grainger-Barras (WA), Braeden Campbell (NSW) and Lachie Jones (SA) will ensure the first-round will feature names from all parts of the country.
