AFL Awards 2020: Who won the AFLPA MVP, Rising Star, Coaches Award and who made the All-Australian team?

This was an awards season with a difference. Forced to think outside the square due to COVID-19 restrictions, the AFL combined its All-Australian announcement with a host of awards, including the Rising Star. Here’s who won.

Outside of the Brownlow Medal, it’s the AFL’s new night of nights.

After a season like no other, the league has combined its All-Australian team announcement with the AFLPA MVP, Rising Star and Coaches Award, with players lining up to add to their trophy cases.

Here is every winner on the night, plus the full All-Australian Squad.

AFLPA MVP

Brownlow Medal favourite Lachie Neale has surged to victory in the AFLPA MVP voting, defeating nearest threat Travis Boak by a remarkable 700 votes.

Neale’s dominant season helped the Lions to second on the ladder and he beat out Boak and rejuvenated Melbourne star Christian Petracca for the players’ player.

RISING STAR

Caleb Serong was named a near-unanimous Rising Star winner, with the people’s champ, injured Gold Coast star Matt Rowell failing to garner a single vote.

The Fremantle smooth-mover won top votes from eight of 10 selectors.

ALL-AUSTRALIAN TEAM

This year’s All-Australian team features 12 new faces as the next generation of stars continues its takeover of the competition.

Geelong, Port, West Coast and the Western Bulldogs were the most prolific clubs, with three players each, while Cats’ star Patrick Dangerfield was bestowed the captaincy, Power jet Travis Boak his deputy.

AFLCA CHAMPION PLAYER

It’s a triple treat for Brisbane star Lachie Neale, who added the AFL coaches award to his MVP and All-Australian nods.

COLEMAN MEDAL

Only one man managed more the 40 goals in 2020 and that was Geelong’s man-mountain Tom Hawkins, who adds the Coleman Medal to his nine-straight Geelong goal kicking awards.

Hawkins finished ahead of Port brute Charlie Dixon (32) Hawk flyer Jack Gunston (31) and West Coast big forward Josh Kennedy (31)
