A trio of Collingwood premiership stars are set to integrate into full training loads after respective off-season injury woes.
Winger Josh Daicos, who was sidelined for several sessions in the past weeks, has started running again after experiencing muscle and nerve pain in his calf.
The Magpies’ head of high performance Jarrod Wade provided an update on the star midfielder.
“Daicos is progressing in his recovery from some lower leg muscle/nerve pain he experienced whilst running during the three-week break,” he said.
“Following a period of down-load, Daicos has commenced a running program and should progress quickly into skills over the next three weeks while monitoring his response to training loads.”
Defender Brayden Maynard made his return to contact training, having undergone shoulder surgery in the off-season.
He is expected to be involved in the match simulation work in the next two-to-three weeks as the Pies ramp up for their premiership defence.
Wade said key forward Brody Mihocek, who suffered a calf complaint before the three-week break over the festive season, is ready for match simulation.
“Mihocek had a calf complaint prior to the three-week break and has since ramped up his training intensity,” he said.
“(Mihocek) is expected to be cleared for match play next week.”
Wade also provided an update on injured forward Dan McStay, who had surgery on his ruptured ACL seven weeks ago.
The former Brisbane goal kicker has begun a full lower body gym program, has started on high-intensity bike sessions and is expected to begin running in the next four-to-six weeks.
Collingwood is set to face GWS Giants in the Opening Round.
