Hawthorn power forward Jonathon Patton has broken down in tears after suffering an injury in the first quarter of the Hawks’ clash with Collingwood in Sydney.
The former Giants star returned to his former club’s home ground on Friday night where he has had more than his fair share of injury nightmares.
It happened all over again on Friday night when he slid on his knees as he attacked a loose football on the slick Giants Stadium surface.
He stood up awkwardly and then limped to the bench.

It was reported by Channel 7’s sidelined reporter and former Swans champion Jude Bolton that Patton was emotional after having his hip assessed by a team medical official. The injury was later confirmed to be a hamstring injury.
Sitting alone on the bench, Channel 7 cameras then spotted Patton breaking down in tears as he faced another serious injury.
Patton has previously suffered a series of long-term knee injuries, crippling his once promising career as the Giants’ first ever No. 1 draft pick.
He was spotted looking “distressed” according to footy icon Bruce McAvaney.
“Just thinking about Patton, he didn’t play at all last year,” McAvaney said of Patton’s move to Hawthorn.
“He’s missed a heap of footy. It was a knee last year. Didn’t play one game at this level.
“He’s missed 90 matches in his short career. It was a short career. He’s been around a while, but missed it. See just how distraught he is at the moment.”
Bolton said: “He’s visibly distressed down here. They were checking his right hip at one stage, then he got down on the ground.
“He’s hunched over on the boundary line at the moment getting checked out by the trainers. But you could see everyone going around him and consoling him, giving him a pat on the back. Obviously we saw him visibly distressed.”
It was revealed shortly after that Patton had suffered a hamstring injury.
Hawks football manager Shane Wright told Seven at quarter time Patton could be back playing in as little as a couple weeks.
“He hurt the hamstring in a marking contest out here on this wing,” Wright said.
“We don’t think it’s a real bad one, but probably bad enough to miss a week or two.”
Footy commentators said they were “heartbroken” at seeing Patton suffer another serious injury.
I genuinely hope Patton is ok. From the little bit Iâve had to do with him nothing but good things to say of him. Fingers crossed he is back soon

Can understand Patton emotion given his history. Short season, and that will be 4 weeks at least given Hawks will be conservative. Also hard to play yourself back into form and the best 22 given this is crazy year. @7AFL

Patton looks a significant story unfortunately. He may have seriously injured himself again. He seems distraught, with trainers providing support. Wasnât happy coming off
