Adelaide United fans’ favourite Marcelo Carrusca is considering playing NPL in SA

SYDNEY-based Marcelo Carrusca is planning to resettle at his Kidman Park home with his young family if he can’t win an A-League contract in an off season with an NPL contract in SA a very viable option.

SYDNEY-based Marcelo Carrusca is planning to resettle at his Kidman Park home with his young family if he can’t win an A-League contract with an NPL contract in SA a very viable option.

He also has plans to give keen young soccer players in Adelaide an opportunity to learn the game Argentinian style.

Carrusca is coming back home temporarily in October.

“I’ve got my academy happening at Jubilee Reserve (West Lakes) from October 6 we have a free trial for kids,’’ said Carrusca from Sydney 15 years after he was earmarked for a super career when he starred at the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championships for Argentina alongside players now regarded as legends like Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano in the UAE.

“I have also run them at St Ignatius College and Immanuel College for the past two years.

“I want to work with clubs if I don’t have any more options to play in the A-League.

“I want to develop kids and offer clubs a chance for their young players to come and train with me for one night of the week to add an extra training session to what they already do.

“For me the kids in Australia don’t train enough and we must also teach many of them also about why the right food to eat is very important.

“I see a lot of kids eat the wrong foods and it also happens in professional football here.

“I feel in good condition, I’m training with a professional.

“I think I will be live here in Sydney until December, my son (Luca) is in school here and I want him finish the school year before we come back to Adelaide.”

Carrusca, 35, is between playing jobs after ending a short six month contract at Western Sydney on June 30 a year after he left SA for Melbourne City where earned no starts and 87 minutes under boss Warren Joyce.

Ex Reds coach Josep Gombau rescued the Argentine when he joined Western Sydney in January but Carrusca’s playing future was immediately in jeopardy when the Spaniard was fired by the Wanderers in April.

Carrusca played 15 times for Wanderers and scored a goal against his former club Adelaide in the last match of the season in a 3-2 loss in Sydney in April.

Respectfully Carrusca refused to celebrate the goal after representing Adelaide for 114 games and 25 goals for five years as he now prepares for the inevitable professional playing retirement.

“I was always prepared for this being without a contract after being a professional for nearly 17 years,’’ Carrusca said.
