Adelaide forwards Ben Keays and Josh Rachele have been fined for wearing illegal boots on multiple occasions.
The Crows were also handed a fine for allowing their players to wear illegal studs after clubs were notified on June 4 that fines would be issued for breaches.
League officials wrote to all 18 clubs to reiterate that boots with “exposed metal studs have the potential to cause injuries and have no place across any level of the game”.
Clubs were notified that breaches of the rules could result in fines up to $40,000.
Keays wore the illegal boots on a further four occasions and Rachele another two after the clubs were notified.
Keays was fined $5000 and Rachele copped a $2500 fine, while Adelaide will have to pay $7500.
AFL general manager of football operations Laura Kane said the boots posed a “significant injury risk”.
“Player health and safety is paramount to the AFL and the wearing of metal stops poses a significant injury risk to other players,” she said.
“Disappointedly, despite multiple warnings, the players elected to wear the incorrect football boots.”
Rachele will miss the coming weeks after suffering a knee injury that needed surgery, however the forward is hopeful of a late-season return for finals.
