HIGHLY talented Adelaide Bite youngster Jordan McArdle is to take a plunge and jump out of a plane to raise funds for CanTeen.
McArdle, the powerful hitter who will return to the US at the end of next month, has accepted an offer to skydive on February 10 as part of the Courage for CanTeen, which supports people aged 12-25 going through a cancer experience.
The decision to do the jump follows the passing of his mother Nicole in July after being diagnosed with cancer.
“Ever since mum was diagnosed and passed away we have talked about finding ways to help raise cancer awareness,” McArdle said. “I’ve never jumped out of a plane, it’s a bit scary but it should be good fun.”
Former Adelaide star Andrew Jarman, four-times Central District premiership player and Channel 7 personality Andrew Hayes and former Adelaide Thunderbirds and Diamonds goaler Erin Bell are also among the skydivers doing the Courage for CanTeen jump. They will land on Semaphore beach.
McArdle has had two seasons in the US minor leagues and he will attend Arizona Diamondbacks’ spring training in March. His performances at the camp will determine where he starts the season.
It has been another productive ABL stint for McArdle and he will be hoping to have a heavy influence when the Bite complete their season with a four-game series against Sydney Blue Sox in West Beach starting on Thursday night.
The Bite are out of playoff contention after being swept by Melbourne Aces on the weekend, but McArdle said the Bite are desperate to finish the season “with a bang”.
“Last weekend was not the best, but we still go out and play hard and hopefully shake up Sydney and the playoff rankings,” he said. “This will be the last time we will play together so we want to have some fun.”
