Willunga Waldorf School advises parents a staff member has been charged with serious sex offending

Parents at a southern suburbs school have been notified after a staff member was charged with serious sex offending.

A letter has been sent to the parents of students at Willunga Waldorf School in Adelaide’s south after a staff member was arrested and charged with serious sex offending last month.

Police arrested a man from the southern suburbs on July 25 and charged him with unlawful sexual intercourse.

It will be alleged that the victim was under the age of 18.

In the letter, Willunga Waldorf School’s principal Jodie Thomas advised parents that the man was a staff member at the school.

“It is important to note that these allegations are yet to be proven in a court of law and the individual is entitled to the presumption of innocence until such time as the allegations are proven,” she wrote.

“As the police are investigating this matter, I am unable to make further comment. I will inform you of the progress of the prosecution as soon as I am in a position to do so.”

She said the wellbeing and safety of students was her “primary concern”.

“I have support in place for all involved or affected by this matter,” she said.

“I advise that you might like to speak to your child about safety and to ensure they feel safe at school.

“Therefore if you have any concerns about your child, please let me know.”

She said she understood that families may be concerned by this news.

“Rest assured that I will be actively monitoring this matter, having support in place for those directly involved including staff, and will keep the community updated to the extent that I am able,” she said.

Willunga Waldorf School is an independent Kindergarten to Year 12 school at Willunga in Adelaide’s south.

The man was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on August 31.
