Prince Alfred College has revealed plans for its new $23m modern-inspired preparatory school, designed by the architect behind the Adelaide Oval redevelopment.
The college at Kent Town, one of Adelaide’s oldest private schools, will retire the current building on the corner of Dequetteville Tce and Little Flinders Ln, rebuilding it from the ground up.
Building works on the Reception to Year 6 school will commence in December, pending the stamp of approval from Norwood, Payneham and St Peters Council.
Project architect Walter Brooke & Associates has handled several other high-profile SA builds including the ongoing Adelaide Airport 30-year vision and the forthcoming Keystone Tower, which would be the CBD’s first skyscraper.
In an email to the college community, headmaster David Roberts said the costs would be borne out through investment, debt and voluntary fundraising.
“The buildings that currently make up our junior primary facilities have evolved in stages over many years and have served us well, but are nearing their end of life,” Mr Roberts said.
“Our new facilities will offer the best possible learning spaces for our boys and staff, providing functionality and flexibility to adapt to the teaching and learning needs now, and for future generations.”
The new centre will feature nine-classrooms and an outdoor open learning and play space.
Further works as part of the College’s master plan include a carpark, multipurpose sports field, and upgrades to secondary school buildings.
