A prestigious private school has paid tribute to a beloved member of its community, who had been involved with the college for more than 45 years.

On Saturday, former Saint Ignatius College bursar and business manager Norm Tanti died aged 84.

In 2005, Mr Tanti was awarded the The Australian Province of the Society of Jesus jubilee medal in recognition of his service to the school and was described as a close confidant for many of the college’s headmasters.

In a post shared to social media on Monday evening, the school thanked Mr Tanti for his contributions.

“For many years, there would not have been a building or financial project in the college that Norm was not responsible for,” the college said.

“Norm’s final project for the college was the Chapel of the Holy Name at Athelstone.

“This beautiful building provides an insight into Norm’s eye for detail and his determination to ensure that college resources were provided to the highest standards possible.

“Norm’s contribution to Saint Ignatius’ College has been enormous and the health of the college today owes much to him.

“Our thoughts are with the Tanti family at this difficult time.”

Members of the college community took to social media to remember Mr Tanti as “kind”, “a lovely man” and a “delight to know”.

Mr Tanti and his wife Anita were first involved with the college in 1970, when they enrolled their first child.

Five of Mr Tanti’s children subsequently attended Saint Ignatius, where he became active in the Father’s Club and college finance committee, which he served on for 16 years.

He was appointed to the inaugural college council in 1993 and, after leaving his construction business in 1995, was appointed development manager for the college.
