An Adelaide elite private girls school has announced an extravagant upgrade, revealing plans for a proposed new gym facility.

St Peter’s Girls’ School principal Cherylyn Skewes emailed the school community detailing the facility would include two multipurpose indoor courts, a fitness room, weights room, music rooms and a cafe among other developments.

The complex, to be built on the corner of Hallett and Stonyfell roads, will also include a drama space, general learning classrooms, changerooms and 36 underground car parks.

The current gym is set to be demolished to make way for the outdoor courts.

Ms Skewes said she was “delighted” to share the plans that aim to “further strengthen our reputation as a leading school”.

“Given our growing enrolments and our community’s desire to remain an ELC to Year 12 School on one campus, we reviewed and upgraded our initial proposal for a new gym,” Ms Skewes said in her email.

She said the upgraded plan “aligns strongly” with the schools commitment in providing “excellent holistic education”.

“The build will enable us to expand upon our co-curricular student offerings and for students to further excel in areas of sport, dance, drama and music.

“The additional features of this new build will play a significant role in shaping the learning and educational experiences of future generations of Saints Girls.”

The plans have been submitted to Burnside Council and construction is set to commence in the second half of 2024, to coincide with the school’s 130th anniversary.

“I look forward to embarking on this exciting journey with you and will provide regular updates as the North West Build takes shape,” Ms Skewes said.
