An elite Adelaide private school has opened a multimillion-dollar “Discovery Centre” at its Novar Gardens campus.
Immanuel College has opened the $14.5m building as part of its new year 10 program called The Year of Discovery.
The program offers 40 unique electives such as How to Catch a Murderer, Podcasting, The Side Hustle, Musical Theatre and Sonic Media Production.
It aims to help students better understand themselves, explore opportunities and prepare for year 11 and 12 and life after school.
The Discovery Centre features a business enterprise hub with facilities for young entrepreneurs such as a pitch lab, podcasting studio, green screen media room and even spaces to run their own businesses while attending school with the support of industry mentors.
While the project cost $1m more than originally anticipated, the centre is fitted with state-of-the-art technologies and flexible learning space to nurture different learning experiences and uniquely designed learning spaces.
“We wanted to create a precinct that is more than just a building,” principal Kevin Richardson said.
“It’s not continuing to do what we have always done in a new building, but teaching and learning in new ways, giving students innovative growth experiences and preparing them for a life beyond school.
“We believe that the future belongs to those who can think creatively, work collaboratively and adapt to change.
“The Discovery Centre is a space that further supports our students to develop these essential skills and unleash their full potential.”
