A flythrough video and architect’s impressions of the new Xavier College campus at Riverlea have been revealed including a rooftop garden, multimedia studios and a food technology centre.
It comes after a Catholic school was initially announced for the Riverlea in July last year, the first campus for the housing development, but it was not yet revealed which college it would be.
Stage one of Xavier College Riverlea Park, in Adelaide’s north, is expected to cost $60m and will cater for students in reception to year 6.
The school, to open in January 2027, will progressively provide a full academic pathway to year 12 and will feature a three-storey building for students and a dedicated out of hours care space.
A co-located early learning centre will provide care for children from six weeks of age to five years old.
Xavier College currently has campuses at Evanston, Gawler Belt and Two Wells.
Catholic Education executive director Dr Neil McGoran said the campus would build “an even stronger focus on student learning and quality teaching”.
The new Xavier College site will mark the 120th Catholic school campus in South Australia.
A partnership with Playford Council and Walker Corporation will provide shared community access to recreational and sports grounds on site including soccer pitches and a multi-sport oval.
Eventually this partnership will extend to a gymnasium located on the site.
The site will also have cutting-edge STEM spaces and 300 sqm of landscaping, including a cultural trail which pays respect to First Nations people.
Walker Corporation chief executive David Gallant said “quality education and well-designed community facilities” were always a core component of the vision for Riverlea.
Playford Council mayor Glenn Docherty said the new build would be “a fantastic result for our community”.
Through the partnership, the council was “not just responding to growth, but anticipating it”, Mr Docherty said.
