A private school principal has shut down the social media account he used to make disparaging remarks about politicians, with the reasons for his sudden departure shrouded in secrecy.

Endeavour College principal Glyn Roberts’s Twitter account, which contained multiple posts criticising politicians and the performance of the Port Adelaide FC team, appeared to have been removed on Friday.

Just last week, Mr Roberts shared a job advertisement for teaching roles at Endeavour College on LinkedIn with the caption: “Come and join our vibrant teaching community in 2023”.

But searches of his social media accounts on Thursday showed he had changed his LinkedIn profile to state he was “looking for work”.

Mr Roberts also updated his work experience to “unemployed” as of September 2022.

He has not been seen at the school’s Mawson Lakes campus since last week.

Following inquiries by The Advertiser, the Lutheran school’s chairwoman Leanne Ridsdale confirmed Mr Roberts had resigned by mutual agreement last Wednesday.

Ms Risdale would not disclose the reasons.

“The terms of his resignation are confidential between the college and Mr Roberts,” she said.

“The college appreciates Mr Roberts’ contribution and wishes him well.”

Independent Education Union SA secretary Glen Seidel said they were unaware of Mr Roberts’ sudden departure.

“We’re not representing the principal. It came as a surprise to us, too,” Mr Seidel told The Advertiser.

“We‘re involved with the school but we hadn’t been alerted to his sudden disappearance.”

Mr Roberts, a British-born father of two and children’s author, spent 11 years at Tatachilla Lutheran College and six years at St Peter’s College as its head of English before joining Endeavour College in August last year.

He did not respond to requests for comment.

Prior to being shut down, Mr Roberts’ Twitter account included statements that former prime minister Scott Morrison was “a huge hypocrite” and anyone who believed in German dictator Adolf Hitler was “quite clearly racist fascist scum and an abomination”.

In another tweet last February, Mr Roberts questioned why former British prime minister Boris Johnson had not been forced to apologise over a “slur” blamed for inciting demonstrators to confront British Labor leader and former director of public prosecutions Keir Starmer over allegations he failed to prosecute paedophile entertainer Jimmy Savile.

“Total f … ing disgrace,” he posted. “The British parliament has no credibility at all left. It’s an embarrassment to the English.”

Mr Roberts, who had an Adelaide rock band called The Timelords, also used Twitter to vent about Port Adelaide, particularly coach Ken Hinkley.

In one post, he described Port as “total, total shite” before calling on the club to “sack Hinckley (sic)” after a loss to “one of the worst teams in the AFL”.

Mr Roberts also took aim at soccer’s governing body, FIFA, over the invasion of Ukraine, calling for it to “ban Russia, you spineless, useless, money grabbing cowards”.

According to his updated LinkedIn profile, Mr Roberts is “an experienced educational leader with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry.”

“Just completed a short tenure as principal of Endeavour,” it says.

The school has 710 students and 100 staff.
