Designs have been released for a new childcare centre proposed for a beachside Adelaide suburb that would cater to more than 100 kids.

The new childcare centre on the Anzac Hwy at Glenelg East is set to accommodate up to 104 children with six activity rooms, three sleep areas and outdoor play space.

The outdoor play area is divided into three areas totalling approximately 773 sqm around the perimeter of the centre building.

It will also include a coffee outdoor area for parents, a kitchen, pantry and staffrooms.

The development will include the renovation of an existing house on the site, while existing buildings will be demolished to make way for 22 parking bays.

The application for the new facility was made by 530 Bay Road and will be open for public discussion until May 7.

Following construction, the facility will be open full time from Monday to Friday.

The proposed development comes after a new report by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission released in February that parents in Adelaide’s city and Hills are paying he highest out-of-pocket costs for childcare.

In SA, parents who send their children to childcare in suburbs around the city and Adelaide Hills pay the most after subsidies ($47.14 a day on average), followed by the western suburbs ($40.73).

Centres in Adelaide’s southern suburbs charge the highest average daily fee, at $135.04, but receive slightly more government subsidy, bringing the daily out-of-pocket cost down to $39.35.
