A new university diploma has been announced for cricket fans, who will get the chance to study at Adelaide Oval.

Flinders University's new cricket management degree

Adelaide Oval will become a classroom following the announcement of a new cricket-focused diploma at Flinders University backed by stars of the sport in South Australia.

The university has partnered with the SA Cricket Association to launch the SA-first diploma of sports management, with a focus in cricket, which will offer on-the-job experience.

Batsman for the South Australian cricket team and Flinders University student Henry Hunt said the one-year diploma would allow fans to “be part of the action off the field”.

“It gives cricket fans a chance to get behind the scenes insights into how a sporting organisation is run,” Hunt, 27, said.

“Whether your dream is managing a local club or working with an international team, this program equips you with the skills to make it happen.”

Adelaide Strikers WBBL bowler Jemma Barsby said the diploma would be “a game changer for women who love cricket”.

“This program opens doors to fantastic careers,” Barsby said.

Classes will be held between the Oval and the newly built Flinders City campus and will include experiences at SACA matchday operations, marketing and commercial activities.

Completion of the diploma will give credit towards Bachelor degrees at Flinders.

Flinders University senior deputy vice chancellor Professor Romy Lawson said the diploma will help students “build professional networks” while learning.

“We know Australians are passionate about their cricket and students with the right skills can apply them in local clubs or at the top level of the sport after completing this program,” Prof Lawson said.
