Nearly 100 kids will be able to a enjoy a new childcare centre in Adelaide’s south under a proposal by one of Australia’s fastest-growing operators – with the development set to generate 16 jobs.

Edge Early Learning’s proposed Happy Valley centre would provide early education for 99 preschool-aged children between the hours of 10am and 3pm from Monday to Friday.

In a report published by Future Urban, the building would be separated into six “activity areas based on the ages of the children”.

“Each area has access to outdoor play spaces, preparation rooms, and bathrooms,” the report said.

“(There are) a range of internal spaces which support the functioning of the centre including a reception, kitchen, laundry, staffroom, meeting room, planning room, and sleep rooms.

“It will provide a contemporary facility for both children and staff while positively contributing to the amenity of the locality.

“A mix of solid and open-style fencing, as well as soft landscaping, is proposed along the street frontages which will provide an attractive streetscape.”

Twenty-five car parks will be provided at the 2 Alabama Rd property, including one disabled space.

It comes after Edge unveiled a new centre in Angle Vale in June – its 17th SA facility – with chief executive Annie Bryce saying the company was working on plans to open more centres across the state “in the next few years”.

“Edge now provides early-learning places to more than 5600 children, aged six-weeks to school age across the state, across a total of 17 centres in South Australia, with further expansion on the horizon,” she said.

“Our most recent opening in Angle Vale is catering to a growing location; as the community flourishes, so does the need for additional quality options for families, and we have already had a great response from local families wanting to book tours to see the new centre.”

Submissions for the Happy Valley centre are open until August 13.
