An empty block fronting one of the Gold Coast’s busiest arterial roads is set to be transformed into a tower.
Plans have been lodged by company Clear Water 8 for a 31-storey mixed-use building on the corner of Southport’s Lawson and High streets.
The site has long sat empty and been used as a carpark.
It will have 157 units for a total of 338 bedrooms, including some aimed at short-term holiday leasing.
The tower will be targeted at the affordable market.
“The proposal has a considered design to allow for the timely and feasible delivery of an affordable housing project,” a report lodged with council reads.
“A key aspect of the proposal’s affordability and feasibility relates to the ability of the development to accommodate its supply of carparking across four storeys of podium – negating the need to provide more than two levels of basement.
“Such an outcome has a substantial impact on the project’s viability and will ensure the affordability of the units for future residents.”
