South Australia’s best home for 2022 has been crowned. Readers of The Advertiser and Sunday Mail have cast their votes and ranked a Medindie home as their top choice, knocking off an architect’s family home in Mitcham abode from the first spot.

The resort-style stunner at 2A Victoria Ave impressed readers with more than 23 per cent readers saying it was underrated in the rankings – it had been placed at number 16 in the original SA’s Top 50 Homes list.

Set on a 1362sqm allotment, the home has four bedrooms, four bathrooms and parking for five cars, as well as a court and pool. It sold last year for more than $5.5m, breaking the hearts of all of those who missed out.

Selling agent Stephanie Williams of Williams Real Estate who sold both the top two homes on the list with co-agent John Williams said post the pandemic homes that offered the complete lifestyle package were in high demand.

“While location is important for family buyers, post the pandemic, people want homes with a beautiful outdoor kitchen, large entertaining spaces, a home theatre and even a wellness space,” Ms Williams said.

“The home in Medindie is a luxurious residence in a prestigious location. It has a very alluring facade and the quality in the home was a standout,” Ms Williams said.

“The luxury buyers that came through really appreciated the floorplan and how the indoor-outdoor entertaining spaces integrate really well. It has a stunning swimming pool and tennis court as well.”

One of the biggest gainers in the people’s choice is a unique home which featured on Grand Designs back in 2017. Described as a lozenge by host Peter Maddison, readers ranked it at number three – a whopping 46 spots higher than its original ranking.

Designed by Max Pritchard Gunner Architects, it was built for an eco-conscious family, and apart from bedrooms and living zone, it includes a library, cinema and study and bar.
