Multi-millionaire Adelaide businessman Davie Fogarty is getting back to nature and away from the stresses of city life with the purchase of a luxurious acreage property in the Adelaide Hills.
Fogarty shared the news of the purchase with followers on YouTube, announcing he had snapped up the Mylor farm for $4.35 million.
In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Fogarty, who amassed a $500m fortune after he founded Oodie, said he purchased the home because he “needed a place to get away”.
“I grew up in the Hills so I would always just walk around in nature and think about ideas.
“Some people connect with nature and need it a lot more than others.
“As entrepreneurs we kind of become conditioned to the amount of cortisol and stress that we are actually experiencing and if you’re like me, you just want to work.
“It’s all you want to do so you don’t really have that many hobbies but that can just cause more and more issues.”
The property, which includes four bedrooms, three bathrooms, large paddocks, a dam and a pottery workshop last sold for $1.41m in 2018.
Fogarty said the property, sold by Dee-Anne Hunt of Williams Real Estate, was the “last thing” he “really, really wanted and needed” in his life.
Fogarty said he had originally planned to buy interstate before falling in love with the farm.
“I was actually looking for a house in Noosa,” Fogarty said in a video uploaded to YouTube
“I wasn’t actually going to buy another house in Adelaide but then I saw this and just instantly knew that I needed to go see it.”
Fogarty said he cancelled other house inspections as soon as he saw the property.
“I was like ‘I’m 100 per cent going to buy this house’,” he said. “I didn’t even sell my house, just needed to move into this one.”
Fogarty said he initially offered $4.2 million for the acreage property, before increasing his offer to $4.35 million to include furnishings.
“Honestly, I needed it with all the furnishings, I couldn’t imagine if I styled this,” he said.
Fogarty said he planned to build a chapel on the property to serve as a gym and extending the master bedroom.
“I’m just going to enjoy it and find a bit of peace as well,” he said.
Fogarty this year joined the judging panel on Shark Tank Australia.
