Adelaide’s rental crisis: ‘Cosy’ Kilkenny house listed for $500 per week

Responses to the suburban house’s real estate listing have been popping up across social media for a week.

Rental crisis compounding cost of living pressures

An Adelaide rental has been caught in a social media spotlight over an eyebrow-raising asking price.

Images of the “cosy” Kilkenny house have been popping up across social media for a week after appearing on a viral Instagram page that’s built a following highlighting some of Australia’s more controversial rental homes.

Described by Korn Real Estate as “cosy” and “welcoming”, it is listed as a two bedroom home while the floor plan shows one bedroom plus one bathroom, a kitchen, sunroom, living room and dining room.

Originally listed for $500 a week on realestate.com.au, the asking price for the inner north-western suburbs home was removed from the advertisement on Friday.

“Inside, the light-filled interiors create a warm and welcoming ambiance, ideal for a private and cozy style of living. Flourishing fruit trees add a touch of nature to your home,” the advertisement reads.

“For shopping, Armada Arndale Shopping Centre is just a stone’s throw away.

“Kilkenny train station is a short stroll from your door, ensuring efficient commutes. Plus, you’re conveniently located less than 8km from the CBD and a mere 9km from the golden shores of Henley and Grange Beach, combining urban and coastal living in one extraordinary location.”

It is understood the Wilpena Terrace property was previously rented for $550 a week and has been relisted after the tenants broke their lease.

After removing the price tag the agent says they are willing to negotiate a price with prospective tenants.

The estimated rent range for the suburb is $426 to $500 per week with medianasking rent $510, according to CoreLogic.

The 700sqm property is also listed for sale for $699,000 by Century 21 Southern.

Development plans to build two homes on the land, subject to council approval are included in the realestate.com.au listing.

“Location! location, location!!!,” the second advertisement reads.

Take this opportunity right now to build that dream home or perhaps the potential for your development (STCC).”
