Spring is here, bringing with it the state’s peak selling season, so there’s absolutely nothing stopping you from buying and selling with confidence.

And auction plays a bit part in that, with the transparent sales format growing in popularity over recent years.

According to PropTrack, 135 South Australian homes will go under the hammer this week – 125 across metro Adelaide and 10 regional properties.

This is up 5 per cent on the same period – August 29 to September 4 – last year.

Courtesy of auction streaming and bidding service Gavl, 12 auctions were live streamed here on Saturday.

AUCTION REPLAYS AND RESULTS

Diving into that PropTrack data, Tumby Bay, on the Eyre Peninsula 45km north of Port Lincoln, is the state’s top auction suburb this week, with six homes hitting the auction block by the end of the weekend.

Largs Bay, Para Hills, Salisbury East and Valley View all have three homes facing the hammer.

Nationally, PropTrack economist Anne Flaherty said the country’s auction market was strong.

“Scheduled auctions are well up compared to 12 months ago when lockdowns were hindering market activity, particularly in Victoria,” she said.

“Across Australia there are 134% more auctions due to take place this week compared to the same week last year.

“As we move further into spring, the number of auctions scheduled looks set to increase, giving buyers more choice.

“Forecasts of further price falls could also prompt some vendors to bring forward their selling campaigns.”

She said the combination of more properties for sale and slowing demand was providing more breathing room for buyers.

“As a consequence, the speed at which properties sell is likely to slow over the coming months,” Ms Flaherty said.

Among the properties to be live streamed Saturday are a renovated 1915-built family home at 30 Musgrave St, Largs Bay.

The home, which sits on an 821sqm allotment, has up to four bedrooms and a number of indoor and outdoor living spaces, and goes under the hammer at 11.30am.

Then at noon, a classic Woodville home will be auctioned, some 53 years after it was last offered to the market.

The 11 Ranelagh St home has four bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen and meals area and an extensive established rear yard.
