5 reasons you should go to auction this spring

It looks set to be a big weekend before Christmas for auctions in South Australia with 172 properties going under the hammer across the state this week.

According to PropTrack data, 162 of these were from metro Adelaide, while the other 10 can be found in regional South Australia.

Of these, 17 auctions will be live streamed on Saturday, courtesy of auction streaming and bidding service Gavl.

The auction action is tipped to be the strongest in Norwood and Prospect which are scheduled for five auctions each. Homebuyers should also head to Magill, Mile End and North Adelaide, scheduled for three auctions each.

PropTrack economist Anne Flaherty said the coming week was the last big one for auctions in 2022, with 2,625 currently scheduled across the country.

“While auction activity is still strong this week, volumes are down 32 per cent from the same week last year, with fewer auctions seen in most states,” she said.

“From next week the market will come largely to a standstill as activity pauses over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

“Last week saw clearance rates slip to 52.6 per cent, the lowest level recorded in several months. Rising interest rates are likely to be a contributing factor, with reduced buyer borrowing capacities leading to lower offer prices and more properties being passed in.”
