A huge seaside commercial property in Adelaide’s south has hit the market with locals hoping its future development transforms the area into the next Glenelg.
The sale of the run-down Christies Beaches shopping centre has been described as a once in a lifetime opportunity to snag a mammoth seaside commercial block.
Located at 24-28 and 30 Beach Road, the property was listed for sale earlier this month with local realtor Andrew Turner saying it could awake a sleeping development giant.
“Christies Beach would have to be the most underdeveloped and slept on opportunity in South Australia,” Mr Turner said.
“I can see it as a real opening for the area to be developed, it will just kick start the whole main street.”
Just a stone’s throw away from the beach, the listing offers up to nine titles with three different site access points.
The combined total site area sits at 7387 square metres with the existing infrastructure at an area total of 2023 square metres and 100 carparking spaces.
“It’s extremely unique, ideally it’s a commercial development site but maybe with a bit of residential on top,” Mr Turner said.
“You don’t find over 7000 square metres of in an area like that very often in fact ever.”
While there is no set-in-stone development application for the property, locals have expressed via social media their hopes for the site, with one calling it the ‘next Glenelg’.
“It definitely has the potential to be another Jetty Road Glenelg,” Vez Packer wrote.
Another user wrote the site had become an eyesore and welcomed further development.
“Beach Road Christies has always been a poor planned street,” she wrote.
“It would be nice if it got a spruce up and turned into a buzzing street like Glenelg.
“More tourists, more jobs, more lifestyle infrastructure.
“Can only be good for the area.
“Beachfront there is looking good.”
Expressions of interest for the property close on October 14.
