Improving literacy in young Australians will be the focus of this year’s Make a Difference Appeal – an Officeworks-run fundraiser that has contributed nearly $6 million to education initiatives in the past seven years.

The appeal allows Officeworks store teams across the country to select local community organisations that align with the needs and values of their communities.

This year sees the largest number of organisations supported by the appeal, with a focus on child literacy initiatives.

Building on more than $5.9m raised in previous years, the campaign aims to make an even bigger impact in 2025.

“The Make a Difference appeal enables our team members to rally behind local causes that have deep meaning within their local community and help raise much-needed funds to improve a child’s development and learning,” Officeworks community manager Zoe Cairns said.

“It’s a rewarding initiative because the teams have direct input in selecting the organisations who benefit, allowing them to forge deeper ties with their local communities. For our amazing customers, it shows that loose change can make a massive difference to a community group.”

The nationwide appeal runs until June 30. Customers can donate in any Officeworks store or online, with funds going directly to 20 local community organisations.

Organisations being supported this year include Backpacks 4 SA Kids, Indigenous pathways program Nature Foundation and Zephyr Education, which help children at domestic violence shelters with educational supplies.
