US election live updates: Pentagon officials quietly brace for ‘unlawful’ orders from Donald Trump
Officials in the Pentagon are quietly figuring out how to deal with a second Trump term, and the possibility that he might issue illegal orders.

There is but one state left to call – come on Arizona, we’re waiting.
But it won’t make a difference. Donald Trump will be president. He needed 270 Electoral College votes to be elected. He has 301 to Kamala Harris’ 226, and Mr Trump will likely pick up 11 more votes from Arizona giving him a final tally of 312.
On Friday, US time, a man was charged by US officials as part of an alleged plan by Iran to kill Mr Trump.
Meanwhile, Mr Trump has appointed his first cabinet post. His campaign chief Susie Wiles will become chief of staff in the Trump White House.
Mr Trump has said he has “no choice” but to implement his plan to deport people who do not have legal permission to be in the United States. It’s one of his signature policies.
Elsewhere, Allan Lichtman, a researcher whose unique system had predicted many an election race, has blamed Elon Musk for him getting it wildly wrong this time around.
