Melania Trump has taken a swipe at Barack and Michelle Obama over what she called a “challenging transition” in 2017.
The incoming first lady’s dig follows Michelle Obama’s decision to miss President-elect Donald Trump’s second inauguration next week.
Speaking to Fox News, Mrs Trump was asked what the difference was between preparing to move into the White House previously, compared to now.
“The difference is I know where I will be going, I know the rooms where we will be living. I know the process,” Mrs Trump said.
“The first time was challenging, we didn’t have much of the information. “The information was upheld [sic] for us from [the] previous administration.”
Mrs Trump added that this time she “has everything” she needs and is “already packed” and ready to go. “It’s [a] very different transition second time around,” she said.
When asked whether the Bidens have been accommodating during this transition process, Melania batted away the question.
“They’re still living there and will be out on January 20,” she said. “The transition team has only five hours to move Bidens out to move us in.”
Melania also said that she is “independent” and will stand up to her husband, saying she doesn’t always “agree with what Donald is saying” and is more than “just the wife of the president.”
It comes as Michelle Obama’s representatives confirmed she will not attend Mr Trump’s inauguration next week. No official reason was given, but a report claimed it is because she doesn’t want to “plaster” on a smile for someone she fundamentally believes is a threat to American democracy.
“There’s no overstating her feelings about [Trump]. She’s not one to plaster on a pleasant face and pretend for protocol’s sake,” a source reportedly told People magazine. “Michelle doesn’t do anything because it’s expected or it’s protocol or it’s tradition.”
Meanwhile, Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of Donald Trump has confessed she “hate the darkness of politics as she has opened up about the role she will play in her father’s incoming administration.
When asked about her future, she declared: “I hate politics.”
“I love policy and impact. I hate politics. And unfortunately, the two are not separable,” she said.
Ivanka, who previously served as a White House adviser, sat down for a two-hour interview with The Skinny Confidential podcast.
The mother of three outlined how even though she will not have a formal role in this administration, she plans to provide her father with emotional support.
“It’s the world’s loneliest position,” she said of the US presidency. “The enormity of the decisions you’re making on a daily basis, transactional everyone is with you … it’s a very lonely perch.”
Ivanka said she is most looking forward to helping her father “take his mind off things, to watch a movie with him or watch a sports game, to know that he can be with me and be himself and just relax.”
She recalled how her role in the first Trump administration was “very different”.
“We were like the Pioneers. Nobody really knew what to do with him as a political figure. Now there are so many people around,” she said.
“I think about in this moment how I can also support him because I know what the job is, like in a very personal way, having been by his side for four years.”
Ivanka, who lives in Miami with husband Jared Kusher and their three children, also told how her kids could be “brutal” about her cooking skills.
Kusher, she said, was skilled at making pancakes.
“I tried to make French toast the other day, and I’m actually a decent cook, but because he was travelling – I don’t know if you’re experiencing this yet – (the kids) can be brutal to me when I don’t do something as well as their father,” she said.
The 43-year-old told the Skinny Confidential hosts how her daughter Arabella, 13, got their whole family into jiu-jitsu.
“It’s almost like a moving meditation because the movements are so micro,” she said. “It’s like three-dimensional chess.”
Despite her incredible physique, Ivanka said she had “never been a gym person” and loved to stay fit by surfing or playing racquet sports.
