Tennis star Rafael Nadal is set to become a dad for the first time with his wife Mery Perello pregnant with the couple’s first child.
The 33-year-old was sporting a baby bump under her swimsuit on board the luxury yacht where she and the 22-times Grand Slam winner are enjoying a holiday, according to Spanish magazine Hola!
The news comes after intense speculation Nadal’s childhood sweetheart was expecting after she started wearing more loose-fitting clothes and donned a face mask at the recent Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.
The couple, who have dated for 14 years before tying the knot in October 2019, are yet to comment on the news.
“Obviously, I have the intention of forming a family. I love children and I would like my children to do what they like,” Nadal previously told HELLO.
His uncle and ex-trainer Toni Nadal said last week he was confident the 36-year-old would play at Wimbledon later this month despite his injury problems.
The two-times Wimbledon winner has been undergoing treatment for Muller-Weiss syndrome, the chronic injury he was diagnosed with in 2005 in his left foot.
He had his foot numbed to capture his 14th French Open and 22nd Grand Slam title earlier this month and has not ruled out retirement if he fails to overcome his injury problems.
“If my body allows it, I‘ll be in Wimbledon: someone like me certainly doesn’t want to miss that tournament,” he said.
“My desire is to take the field, but I can’t give a certain answer yet. What I’m sure of is that he won’t repeat the foot injections done here in Paris. If I can play by taking simple anti-inflammatories then I’ll be there.”
