Prince Harry and Meghan Markle refused to contact Prince William and Kate Middleton about meeting up during their UK visit, according to their close friend and journalist Omid Scobie.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are waiting for Prince William to admit he failed to support his brother when he needed him the most for any chance of the brothers rekindling what was once a close relationship, Mr Scobie wrote in his Yahoo column as the outlet’s royal executive editor
The foursome are staying just half a kilometre apart during Prince Harry and Markle’s whistlestop European tour but are said to have no plans to meet up.
Multiple royal insiders reported that the Sussex’s had been “shunned” by the Cambridges.
But Mr Scobie – who wrote a biography about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle based on information rumoured to have been provided to him directly from the royal couple – said that was not the case.
“There’s a laughable effort to suggest the [Sussexes] have been shunned,’ someone familiar with the current family dynamics tells me, adding that Sussexes kept their work-focused itinerary — which saw them in Dusseldorf, Germany, on September 6 for an Invictus Games launch event — as tight as possible so not to be away from their children for too long,” Mr Scobie wrote.
“The true story is, they never reached out to the Cambridges.”
Meanwhile, Prince William is “still waiting” for an apology from his brother for making details of private family matters public, Mr Scobie wrote, citing a source with knowledge of the royal family’s dynamic.
“When you look at the bare facts, it becomes obvious why it is pretty much the same state of affairs as years ago,” the source reportedly told Mr Scobie.
Mr Scobie added that a family friend recently told him Prince Harry feels his brother Prince William has been “unprepared to unpack” the “many lines (that) were crossed,” leading up to the falling-out between the two brothers.
The Sussex’s are on the tour to trumpet the countdown to the Invictus Games for which Prince Harry is patron.
Earlier this week at One Young World summit, Ms Markle gave a fawning speech espousing disbelief at joining the humanitarian charity as a counsellor as a wincing Prince Harry looked on.
“It was one of those pinch me moments … I was first invited to be a counsellor at One Young World in 2014” she said.
“I was probably a lot like each of you, young, ambitious, advocating for the things I deeply and profoundly believed in and also looking around wondering how on earth did I get here?
“There I was, the girl from Suits surrounded by world leaders, humanitarians, prime ministers, and activists that I had such a deep and long standing respect and admiration for and I was invited to pull up a seat at the table.
“I joined One Young World in London in 2019. And by that point … my life had changed rather significantly,” Ms Markle said.
“I was now married and I was now a mum.
“I am thrilled that my husband is able to join me here this time to see and witness first hand my respect for this organisation.
“It was an integral part of my life for so many years before I met him. So to meet again here, on UK soil, with him by my side makes it all feel full circle,” she said.
