Donald Trump Jr mocks Alec Baldwin over fatal shooting

Donald Trump Jr and US conservative pundit Candice Owens have raised eyebrows over their response to the shooting tragedy on a US film set.

After years of Alec Baldwin impersonating Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live, the former president’s supporters have pounced on the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Donald Trump Jr began selling T-shirts saying, “Guns don’t kill people, Alec Baldwin kills people,” rephrasing the popular pro-gun slogan to mock the anti-gun activism of Baldwin.

The actor killed Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza on the set of the film “Rust” when he fired a gun loaded with a live round.

Baldwin has been a constant critic of the former president, saying in a Twitter thread last year that the “near moral collapse of this country falls squarely in the lap of Trump’s supporters”.

Donald Trump Jr posted a meme with Alec Baldwin with a T-shirt being sold following the shooting of Halyna Hutchins. "Guns don't kill people, Alec Baldwin kills people".

“Bury Trump in a Nazi graveyard and put a swastika on his grave. The majority of Americans made the right choice. Trump is a maniac,” he added in a separate tweet.

He is also an anti-gun activist who has spoken out against the National Rifle Association, saying in 2018 the group’s leadership “doesn’t care how many dead bodies” need to be stepped over in their pursuit of taking “back the truth” from lying media.

In response to a police shooting, he wondered “how it must feel to wrongfully kill someone…”.

Given Baldwin’s past opposition to both Trump and against gun rights, Trump Jr quickly began selling T-shirts for USD $27.99 using the popular Second Amendment slogan, “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people”.

He also posted a photoshop meme of Baldwin wearing shirt with the updated slogans “Guns don’t kill people, Alec Baldwin kills people”.

In anticipation of backlash, Trump Jr said in an Instagram story “screw all the sanctimony I’m seeing out there”.

“If the shoe was on the other foot Alec Baldwin would literally be the first person pissing on everybody’s grave trying to make a point. F*ck him!”

Candace Owens, the social commentator who said America should invade Australia, joined the pile on to claim the shooting is “poetic justice” for demonising Trump and his supporters as “evil murderers”.

Owens, who suggested America liberate Australians living under Covid lockdown tyranny, again courted controversy by using the death in her social commentary.

“Alec Baldwin spent 4 years dedicated to painting Donald Trump and his supporters as evil murderers. What has happened to Alec would be an example of poetic justice if it weren’t for the actual innocent people that were murdered by him. Pray for their families. So sad,” the commentator wrote in a since-deleted tweet.

While she replaced the tweet to say Baldwin “killed” someone rather than murdered them, given the legal distinction, she added in a follow-up tweet that “not one single thing that Alec Baldwin has said about Donald Trump and his supporters is going to age well”.
