Alec Baldwin has been seen keeping a low profile in a quiet US town, as police continue to probe the fatal shooting on the set of his movie, Rust.

Baldwin faces possible criminal charges

A downcast Alec Baldwin has been seen in a quiet New England town, as police continue to probe the fatal shooting on the set of his movie, Rust.
It came as detectives investigating the incident, which claimed the life of cinematographer Haylna Hutchins, said they were “not exactly sure” where Baldwin was.

The new photos confirmed that Baldwin, 63, had left New Mexico – where Rust had been filming before the tragedy – and had travelled to Manchester Centre, a small town in southern Vermont.

Dressed in a black cardigan and wearing dark grey pants, Baldwin looked sullen and kept a low profile during the outing with his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, 37, and the couple’s children.

Page Six reported that Baldwin attended Christo’s Pizza and Pasta, where he picked up takeaway food.

Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza had earlier told a press conference that authorities were “not exactly sure” of Baldwin’s “present whereabouts.”

It came as Baldwin retweeted a news report about the release of the latest search warrant in the investigation.

Assistant director Dave Halls told investigators he should have inspected each round in the chamber of the .45 FD Pietta Long Colt before declaring the weapon cold.

“Before he handed a revolver that he had declared ‘cold’ to Alec Baldwin on the set of the film Rust, Dave Halls, an assistant director, told a Detective he should have inspected each round in each chamber, according to an affidavit. But he did not,” the affidavit said.

Per US reports, citing the application for the search warrant, Halls was unaware live rounds were inside the firearm.

The report, published in the New York Times on Wednesday, was retweeted by Baldwin on Thursday (local time).

The actor had previously retweeted a Variety article with the headline, “Alec Baldwin was told prop gun was safe before fatal shooting, affidavit says.”

Apart from a statement expressing his shock and sadness at the accident, Baldwin has remained largely silent on how the shooting occurred.

The gun Baldwin used was one of three that the film’s armourer, Hannah Gutirrez Reed, had placed on a cart outside the building where a scene was being rehearsed, according to court records.

“David advised when Hannah showed him the firearm before continuing rehearsal, he could only remember seeing three rounds,” the affidavit states.

The armourer, 24-year-old rookie Gutierrez Reed, told a Detective that she conducted safety checks on the weapon before putting it on an unsecured prop table outside the set, according to the document.

Gutierrez Reed said that the firearms were secured inside a safe on a “prop truck” before they were retrieved by the film’s prop master Sarah Zachry, handed to the armourer, and then placed on the cart, the affidavit says.

Gutierrez Reed told an investigator that no live ammunition “is ever kept on set”.

“She advised there are only a few people that have access and the combination to the safe,” the affidavit said.

Meanwhile, Baldwin has been “lying low” since the tragedy but has been co-operating, according to police.

And while investigators said they were “not exactly sure of his whereabouts”, the star was photographed by celebrity website TMZ in a small town on the other side of the US.

According to photographs published by TMZ, he has been in an “off-the-beaten-path” location more than 3000 km away from Rust’s New Mexico set somewhere in New England.

Fox News confirmed the location to be in Vermont, almost the extreme opposite end of the country from the southwest film set where investigators are probing the accidental shooting.

Chris Stannard, the owner of The Italian Market of Manchester, told Fox News that Baldwin was in Manchester Center, Vermon, on Monday at Cristos Pizza and Pasta.

“Monday afternoon he was there,” Stannard said.

“I was taking out my trash outside and my acquaintance that works there said, ‘You won’t believe who was just in here!’ He told me and my jaw dropped.”

Days earlier, Baldwin was seen meeting with Hutchins’ husband, Matthew Hutchins, and their 9-year-old son.

Santa Fe County District lawyer Mary Carmack-Altwies said “no one has been ruled out” of the investigation.

Sheriff Adam Mendoza said Baldwin had been cooperative and had not been asked to stay in New Mexico.
