An obstetrician who allegedly killed a woman and injured an Uber driver in a high-speed drunken crash is behind bars after being released by hospital.

An obstetrician who allegedly killed a 24-year old woman and seriously injured an Uber driver in a high-speed drunken crash is behind bars after being released by a hospital.

Ryhs Bellinge was under police guard at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital after he allegedly crashed his Jaguar into an Uber in Dalkeith, one of Perth’s wealthiest suburbs, at 130kmh with a blood-alcohol level of 0.183 about 10.15pm on February 15.

Elizabeth Pearce was rushed to hospital with fatal injuries but died.

Uber driver Mohammad Usman, 25, broke both legs and an arm in the crash, which left him requiring several surgeries.

Elizabeth Pearce, 24, who was killed when a car crashed into an Uber she was travelling in along Birdwood Parade in Dalkeith on February 15.

Mr Usman told media in a statement he was struggling to comprehend what happened and his thoughts were with Ms Pearce’s family.

“Thank you to the first responders and the staff at RPH for looking after me with such great care and understanding,” he said.

Dr Bellinge is facing charges of manslaughter and dangerous driving.

He was hospitalised with broken vertebrae, but was given the all clear from medical staff and transported to prison on Thursday.

Dr Bellinge was denied bail, despite offering $1m in surety and promising to stay at his billionaire parent’s home under a 24-hour curfew.

It was alleged dashcam footage from the doctor’s Jaguar revealed the car had been driven aggressively and dangerously several times in the week before the fatal crash.

The court was told Dr Bellinge had recently separated from his wife and he was not coping with the emotional upset from the marriage breakdown.

Magistrate Clare Cullen said she had viewed the footage and it would be inappropriate to grant the doctor bail.

It was alleged the doctor could be heard calling his car a “superpower” and laughed as he made derogatory comments about other drivers and his former wife.

It was also alleged he drove at high speeds into oncoming traffic and crossed white lines on several occasions.

Magistrate Cullen said there was too much risk the doctor would reoffend and denied his bail.
