Great Barrier Reef one of the ‘best managed reefs in the world’: Plibersek

Milln Reef is enticing divers as “one of the best sites” on the Great Barrier Reef, as these incredible photos taken on Monday by Passions of Paradise Diving School show.

The reef can be seen in these conditions when a high pressure weather system pushes away clouds, paving way for the sun to shine through.

Environmental manager and master reef guide Russell Hosp has been head diver with Passions for the last 14 years and said the site was home to the famous ‘Three Sisters’ dive site.

“This site is regarded as one of the best sights on the Great barrier Reef due to its sheer amount of fish and different species,” he said.

“What people don’t understand is that the reef can be this beautiful all year round and you can see its beauty from only 7-8m deep.”

The Three Sisters diving site consists of three large underwater pinnacles, with the deepest part reserved for advanced certified divers at 32m deep.

“The water has been about 28 degrees lately, which means our divers are only wearing swimmer suits, and even then that's mainly for sun protection,” Mr Russell said.

Underwater creatures such as an array of fish, barracudas, sharks, manta-rays and even a Minke wale have been spotted in the waters of Milln Reef.

“We’re really lucky in this part of the world.

“We have the most beautiful sights at our fingertips.”
