Wild footage emerges of collision that sparked machete attack in Broadmeadows

Shocked Broadmeadows police officers watched a road rage attack and “brazen” stabbing unfold from their station’s windows before rushing to help a wounded man in chaotic scenes in Melbourne’s north.

Police officers watched a “brazen” road rage attack and stabbing unfold from their station’s windows before rushing outside to assist a wounded man.

Up to 25 officers and detectives at the Broadmeadows police station rushed downstairs after they witnessed the daylight knife attack about 5pm Wednesday.

Triple-0 callers described seeing the two vehicles following each other through Broadmeadows before they clashed just 100m from the police station and court precinct on Dimboola Rd.

Detectives say the Kia, which was packed full of several young men, was seen “chasing” the Volkswagen Golf outside the police station.

CCTV footage, obtained by the Herald Sun, shows two men running at the Golf before both cars mount the footpath and narrowly avoid the men.

One of the men on the footpath appeared to have been wielding a knife or machete.

Further security camera vision then shows the Kia ramming the Golf along Pascoe Vale Rd in the wrong direction.

Most of the occupants got out of both vehicles before a male suffered a “deep laceration” to his right arm.

“He was stabbed as he got out of one of the vehicles,” Detective Sergeant Jess Graham, who witnessed the ordeal, said on Thursday.

“It’s disgusting, it’s brazen. They didn’t care that they were on the wrong side of the road, they didn’t care that there were people everywhere.”

Det Sgt. Graham said the staff inside her local station were shocked to see it unfold just 100m away.

“We saw it occur outside the window … I saw the Volkswagen Golf driving up and down Dimboola Rd being chased by males on foot,” she added.

“(It was) chaos, we saw it all, we ran out the door, uniformed members were out the door and then were confronted with a male bleeding on the street.

“It was hectic. The blood loss was significant so clothing was removed from other people in the area and tied around his arm to stop the bleeding.

“He didn’t provide any information about what had occurred but he was obviously frightened.”

Detectives believe the two groups of men are known to each other and the road rage attack was the culmination of “something else”.

The four people who were arrested at the scene gave officers close to a “no comment” interview.

That includes the 20-year-old man who was stabbed in the arm.

“There is something else that caused this, and we’re still investigating that,” Det Sgt. Graham added.

“No one’s really co-operating … The community has been fantastic; the people involved, not so much.”

A 15-year-old, a 17-year-old, a 23-year-old Romsey man and a 24-year-old Sunbury man were arrested at the scene but released.

Detectives are trying to establish who stabbed the man, given there were nearly a dozen men involved.

The Kia was stolen from Epping in recent days.

The investigation is ongoing.
